Dear Friend,
We live in a digital world where screens are integrated into nearly all aspects of our lives. We carry them in our pockets, use them for schoolwork, wear them on our wrists, and listen to them in our cars. Our children are digital natives — they have never known a world without screens and are as comfortable with touchscreens and video calls as we once were with CD players and corded phones.
Families don’t have historical norms to guide effective parenting choices around devices and screen-based media; we can't call our grandmothers or aunties to ask what they did when we were kids because these technologies simply didn't exist! With advocacy organizations warning of dire consequences of screen use and young people living their lives increasingly online, parents may feel concerned, confused, even guilty about their decisions around their children’s use of screens and interactive media.
The Digital Wellness Lab is here to help
Our Family Digital Wellness Guide is designed to provide parents and caregivers with information and guidance based on clinical evidence and scientific research to help them raise healthy, smart, and kind children in our digital age. In it, we discuss both the positives and negatives of digital media use and provide strategies for parents and caregivers of children from birth through young adulthood.
