What do TV viewing habits reveal about adolescents’ emotional stages?
A study conducted by Dr. David Bickham,
Staff scientist at CMCH and
Dr. Michael Rich, Director of CMCH, revealed that
adolescents are relaxed when they are watching TV
and are more likely to watch it when they are alone or with family than when they are with peers.
The authors suggested this is because peer
relationships move to the forefront during adolescence while family relationships become more stressful during those years.
