Teens Reveal Too Much Online
Two research studies looking at teens and risky behaviors revealed how much teens are willing to display information online about sexual behavior, substance use, and violence. While the first study revealed that teens frequently display risk behavior information on social networking websites. The second study showed that online intervention has the potential to reduce references to sex and substance abuse in personal profiles.
Dr Michael Rich sees social networking sites as venues where young people connect with peers and try on different identities. He warns that teens get into trouble when they believe that what they put on their profiles remains anonymous, outside their circle of friends.
