Visiting Graduate Student
Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital

Anthony Biello is a second-year PhD student at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in the Population Health Sciences program concentrating in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Anthony is interested in how social media affects mental health: he wants to research how the specific affordances, persuasive design elements, and algorithms embedded within different social media platforms impact and potentially transform the user’s behaviors, thoughts, and mental health, and explore how the online, digital world translates to the offline, physical world. He also wants to contextually investigate how these outcomes may vary according to who is using the platform (in terms of sociodemographics, developmental stage, etc.), what platform(s) they are using, why they are using them, and how they are using them.

Prior to his work at Harvard and the Digital Wellness Lab, Anthony received his MA in General Psychology from New York University, and worked at a large urban hospital researching how digital interventions impact the psychological and physical wellbeing of patients with chronic disease.
