Should Parents Buy Cell Phones for Their Kids?
With cell phone usage growing rapidly for children and teens, parents have a lot to consider when deciding whether their kids should have cell phones.
According to CMCH, market research by Yankee Group found that 54 percent of 8- to 12-year-olds will have a cell phone in the next three years. Parents should to be aware of the benefits and risks of cell phones, especially when deciding whether to purchase cell phones for their kids.
Explicit Lyrics Impact On Kids
Children are exposed to explicit lyrics and content on television programs geared for young audiences, particularly on music videos shows.
Research has shown that this exposure impacts children’s perceptions about their communities, role models, and themselves.
CMCH Director, Dr. Michael Rich
has found role models as aggressors in more than 80 percent of music video violence. According to Dr. Rich, music videos may be reinforcing false stereotypes of aggressive black males and victimized white females, giving rise to concerns about the effect of music videos on adolescents’ normative expectations about conflict resolution, race, and male/female relationships.
