A Teen Perspective on Teen Safety
- Emily Schlemmer and Ally Millar, Pinterest
- Mona, Elise, Jaansi, Amias, Oleksandr, Youth Panel
Teen safety is a hotly debated and discussed topic right now, especially with legislators, tech CEOs, parents, school leadership… just about everyone except teens. Rules are being made for and about them under the guise of caring about their safety, but what do the teens think, and how would they rewrite the current rules and narrative? We’ll explore all of that together with a youth panel and small group activity.
Squad Up!
Connect with your problem solving crew and meet your facilitator. Get to know each other, dig into your topic set, and talk through the real challenges young people face with it. Then get a sneak peek at this afternoon’s big project: building a three-legged stool of design, policy, and education to take your topic on.
Teams will be predetermined based on their ranked topics from the day before. Guided by a facilitator, they will be working towards:
- Identifying the problem(s) they want to solve within their given topic
- Developing a digital design change, policy reform, and educational action that work together to address the topic

When we come back as a group, each team will have 10 minutes to present their problem and proposed solutions, followed by 5 minutes of feedback from the other two teams.
